Journey Church, located in Castle Pines, CO, underwent a major renovation that doubled the size of their building. We were tasked with not only the finish selections for the interior, but also with the design of their main level lobby space which plays host to regular Sunday services and countless other events throughout the year.

In addition to the lobby, the client asked us to outfit the staff lounge and office area with functional seating and mission-driven design to help inspire their team.

We were asked to not only make the space welcoming to guests on Sundays, but also functional for staff and volunteers during service and throughout the week. The custom 2 piece 8’ round connect desk and 9’ coffee carts were designed by Wit.Co specifically for this space and fabricated on casters so that they could be easily moved around depending on the needs of the space. And various types of seating were implemented to facilitate work and connection.

These south-facing windows show a spectacular view of the Castle Pines area, so we chose to place a large lounge-style seating area there so folks could sit and enjoy the view.

The oversized area rug was created using carpet tiles to help ground the space. The furniture is sturdy yet stylish, and the faux greenery brings some life and vibrancy to this corner of the lobby.

We wanted to define and soften this area near the elevator and stairwell with warm wood tones, accent lighting and acoustic baffles overhead, setting the scene for this cafe style seating area. The slat wood wall treatment displays a simple but effective dimensional mission statement, and the custom banquette has built-in power outlets so that staff can work in this space during the week. Since the stairwell is the primary access point to the lower level kids area, we paired a large dimensional blade sign with the wayfinding column to help direct parents and families down the stairs.

The staff lounge at Journey Church has a unique layout and small footprint. But we were able to create a cozy seating area around the custom-built fireplace, as well as cafe-style seating along the length of the room. The overall palette for this space is made up of neutral tones, with a few pops of blue in the wall graphic, cafe and conference chairs to play up the Journey Church brand color.

This space has two identical conference rooms with a shared back wall and glass front entrances. We took this floor to ceiling mission-driven wall treatment across the entire shared back wall. The large JOURNEY text can be read at a distance, while the repeated value statements help connect staff and volunteers to the church’s mission.
